Pain after a wreck is worth checking.

Soreness after a collision is common, and most of it settles on its own. Some of it doesn't, and the only way to tell the difference is to look. You don't need a referral, and you don't need to have gone to the hospital from the scene. Many spine injuries feel manageable on day one and show up in week three.

Why the price matters here.

An MRI billed through a hospital can run several thousand dollars. If you're uninsured, carrying a deductible, or your care is being paid later out of a case, that bill comes out of your pocket in the end. Ours is $399. Flat. One body part. No facility fee. No separate bill six weeks later. Your PIP goes further. Most Kentucky auto policies include PIP, the no-fault medical coverage that pays for care after a crash regardless of who was at fault. It is a fixed amount, $10,000 per person in basic reparation benefits, and every bill comes out of it. A $399 MRI uses a small slice of that coverage. An MRI billed at hospital rates can use most of it in one visit, before you have had any treatment. If an attorney is handling your case: the MRI is the same $399 whether you pay today, your attorney pays from an account the firm holds, or it is carried on a lien. Car-accident patients sign a lien at the first visit; nearly every firm honors it. If you have reserved your PIP and receive the benefit directly, the MRI is still $399. Our office works directly with the firm on billing. Ask when you call.

Pain that isn't improving

Neck or back pain that is no better after a couple of weeks, or pain that wakes you up at night.

Pain that travels

Pain that runs down an arm or a leg, or numbness, tingling or weakness in a hand or foot.

Headaches since the collision

Headaches that started after the crash. You don't need to have gone to the hospital from the scene to be seen now.

$399. Flat. One body part. No facility fee.

A self-pay MRI is $399 for one body part, without contrast, with the radiologist's report included and no facility fee. No separate bill six weeks later. It is the same $399 whether you pay today, your attorney pays from an account the firm holds, or it is carried on a lien. A second body part is another $399. If an attorney is handling your case, you sign a lien at your first visit and our office works directly with the firm on billing. Ask when you call.

What actually happens.

You call, and a person answers

We'll get you in this week. Same-week appointments, no referral needed. Call (502) 242-6370.

You're examined by a spine surgeon

Not a scan first and questions later. The exam decides whether imaging is the right next step.

If you need the MRI, it's $399

Open, upright MRI at our imaging center on Dutchmans Lane, a few minutes from the clinic. You'll know the price before it happens.

The surgeon reads it with you

Report in 24 to 48 hours, explained on the screen in plain language, not a portal message you have to decode.

You leave with a plan

Most back pain never reaches an operating room. Conservative care first; surgery only when it's the honest answer.

Who reads your scan.

A fellowship-trained spine surgeon

Venu Vemuri, D.O. goes over your MRI with you in the room and tells you what he sees, in plain language.

Independent and physician-owned

No hospital system, no private equity. Decisions get made in Louisville, by the doctor treating you.

Joints too

The MRI center scans hips, shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees and ankles as well as the spine. The clinic evaluates spine injuries; we'll point you to the right place for anything else.

Questions before you call.

Do I need a referral?

No. Call and we'll schedule you. If you plan to use insurance for the visit, your plan may still require one; we'll tell you if it does.

Is $399 really the whole price?

For one body part without contrast, yes. The read and the report are included. There is no facility fee. A second body part is another $399.

What if my attorney is handling the bills?

You sign a lien at your first visit, and the MRI is $399 on the lien, the same as self-pay. Our office handles the paperwork with the firm.

Can I use my PIP for this?

Yes. PIP is the medical coverage on your own Kentucky auto policy, and it pays for care after a crash no matter who was at fault. If you reserve your PIP and receive the benefit directly, you pay $399 for the MRI and keep more of the coverage for the rest of your care. If we bill your auto carrier for you, the carrier pays at Kentucky's fee schedule under HB 627. How your PIP is handled is between you, your insurer and your attorney.

How soon can I be seen?

Same-week appointments are available. Call (502) 242-6370.

What if I was in the accident weeks ago?

That's common. Pain that is still there two or three weeks later is a good reason to be evaluated.

Do you treat injuries other than the spine?

The MRI center scans hips, shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees and ankles as well as the spine. The clinic evaluates spine injuries; we'll point you to the right place for anything else.

This page is general information and isn't a substitute for a medical evaluation. Every spine is different; talk to a spine specialist about your specific symptoms. If you have severe weakness, loss of bladder or bowel control, or symptoms after a significant head injury, seek emergency care.
