A stronger spine, with less load on it.

Your spine doesn't fail on its own. Low bone density lets vertebrae fracture under ordinary loads. Extra body weight adds load to every disc and joint. Low hormone levels are linked to bone loss in both men and women. The Metabolic Spine program treats those three things together, in the same office that treats your back: osteoporosis diagnosis and treatment, GLP-1 medication, and hormone therapy for men and women. Dr. Vemuri runs it himself, and you don't need to be a spine patient to join. Hablamos español: (502) 362-1780, las 24 horas.

Why a spine practice treats bone, weight and hormones.

A spine surgeon sees what metabolic problems do: compression fractures in people who didn't know they had osteoporosis, surgeries that heal more slowly when bone is weak, back pain that tracks with body weight. Most practices refer those problems out, one at a time. We treat them here, because they're spine problems too. The goal is a stronger spine with less load on it, whether or not you ever need an operation.

What the program includes.

Osteoporosis: diagnosis and treatment

A bone density (DEXA) scan, ordered by us, and a fracture-risk review. Treatment covers the full range of options, including bisphosphonates and anabolic, bone-building medication, chosen for your risk and history.

GLP-1 medication

Prescribed and monitored here for patients whose weight is adding load to their spine. Compounded and commercial versions are both available. We review your history first and tell you plainly if it isn't a fit.

Hormone therapy for men and women

Labs first. Treatment is offered when levels are low and symptoms fit, with pellet, injection and topical options. Each part of the program stands on its own.

What a first visit looks like.

Dr. Vemuri goes over your history, your symptoms and any imaging you already have. He orders the labs and, if needed, a DEXA bone density scan, which is done at an outside imaging center. At the follow-up you get the results explained in plain language and a written plan: which of the three parts apply to you, what each costs, and how often we check in. Visits and prescriptions are cash pay unless your insurance covers them, and you'll know the price before you book.

Who this helps.

A fracture, or a scan that showed thin bone

Treating the osteoporosis lowers the chance of the next fracture. If you already have a compression fracture, we treat that here too: for appropriate fractures, kyphoplasty is done in our office, awake, under local anesthesia, in about 30 minutes.

Back or joint pain that moves with your weight

Less load on the spine helps every level at once. GLP-1 medication is one tool for that, prescribed and monitored by the same doctor who treats your back.

Fatigue, low mood or weakness alongside back pain

Low hormone levels can be part of the picture, in men and women, and they're easy to check with labs.

What it costs.

Testing

Labs are ordered at your first visit. A DEXA bone density scan, when needed, is done at an outside imaging center and billed by them.

Questions about Metabolic Spine.

Is this covered by insurance?

Visits and prescriptions are cash pay unless your insurance covers them. Osteoporosis care is often covered; GLP-1 and hormone therapy vary by plan. We'll tell you the price before you book.

Do I need to be a spine patient to join?

No. The program is open to anyone, with or without back pain, and no referral is needed.

Who runs the program?

Dr. Vemuri. He sees you himself, reviews your labs and imaging with you, and writes the prescriptions. Visits are at the main miiSpine office, 6420 New Dutchmans Pkwy, Suite 160.

How is bone density measured?

With a DEXA scan. We order it, it's done at an outside imaging center, and Dr. Vemuri goes over the result with you. Bring any prior DEXA report if you have one.

Which osteoporosis medications do you prescribe?

The full range, including bisphosphonates and anabolic (bone-building) medication. The choice depends on your fracture risk, your history and what you've already tried.

¿Hablan español?

Sí. Llame al (502) 362-1780, las 24 horas.

Which GLP-1 medications do you prescribe?

Both compounded and commercial (brand-name) versions. Like any prescription, GLP-1 medication has side effects and isn't right for everyone, so we review your history first and monitor you while you're on it.

What does hormone therapy involve?

Labs first. If your levels are low and your symptoms fit, Dr. Vemuri goes over the options with you: pellets, injections or topical treatment, for men and for women. We treat only when the labs support it.

How soon can I start?

Same-week appointments are available. Call (502) 242-6370 or request an appointment online.
